Hogsmill River Path Development

The Hogsmill River is a chalk stream river with its source sited in Ewell. It is not possible to walk from Kingston centre along the Hogsmill as it is blocked at Villiers Road Section as it heads along to side of Kingston Cemetery. This could be a fantastic opportunity to clean up The Villiers Road river side which is strewn with rubbish, overgrown and in a dreadful state. Engage the local community along the river and most people will respond and look after their stretch of river. The river walk needs to be developed all along its route which would be a great gift for future generations and encourage local schools and communities to learn about the ecology of the chalk stream with a further push to clean up the river and encourage return of fish and wildlife, The Hogsmill is lagging behind the Wandle. We would need advise from experts with a knowledge of chalk stream ecology, Drainage area s along the river need to be studied to prevent ongoing pollution. There is a overflow drain next to the Police Staion in Kingston Centre which is a major source of pollution.

Why the contribution is important

Long term environmental protection and cleaning of a rare chalk stream linking to the Thames. Development of community engagement in protecting the Hogsmill, opportunity to engage local schools and Kingston University in study of the river ecology, improvement in local environment and green space.
