More trees and shrubs in KT2

Climate change is underway. It's getting hotter, wetter, with more sudden downpours.

We need more trees across the neighborhood to keep us cooler in the heat. Trees also can support other wildlife and biodiversity.

We need council advice and incentives to rewild our front gardens and stop paving them over with tarmac and astro turf. Less tarmac reduces the impact of flash floods, reduces sewer overflow into the Thames and reduces the need for investment in our sewage system via our water bills. It's a win win.

I totally agree with this. Maybe properties could get a deduction in their council tax if they planted a tree or hedge on their property?

I too totally agree. More protection needs to be given to mature trees. I'm told that Tree Preservation Orders are not available for trees not 'in the public domaine' i.e. you can't see them from the street or a public space. Nor does RBKuT offer them on trees on council land as the council believes it is a good steward of its trees. However the behaviour of local authorities elsewhere suggests this is a dangerous assumption.
