New Pedestrian Crossing on London Rd between Gordon Rd and Coombe Rd

A lot of people need or want to cross London Road between Gordon Road and Coombe Road (or vice versa). As well as being a logical place to cross, many people visit the Lidl on foot which draws a lot of people across the road here.

Currently the alternatives are walking out of your way down to the signals at Asda or the signals at Station Road. As a result many people simply cross directly across at least 3 lane widths of two way (often queueing) traffic.

If we can't (or won't) put in a proper crossing, can we at least put in a pedestrian island so people can break up the crossing into two shorter ones. The area between the two roads is hatched markings, so there is space to fit it in without interfering with traffic.

It might even have the benefit of slowing down traffic on London Road a little.

Why the contribution is important

Pedestrians routinely cross here in any case despite the lack of facilities. An improved pedestrian crossing is likely to be safer, slow traffic down and improve accessibility for people who have trouble running across live traffic.
