Pickleball in Kingston
My idea is to build Pickleball courts in Kingston for the health and well being of Kingston residents of all ages and incomes. It is one of the fastest growing sports today.
It is very quick and easy to learn, relative to tennis, and can be played by children and seniors as well. We play with a U3A group in Walton with over 100 players ranging in age from 65-85.
Pickleball only requires a specific paddle, a plastic ball and a net. It is not an expensive sport by any means, so it would be a low cost investment relative to many other sports. It can be played on Badminton courts, just using a different net.
Pickleball is usually played as doubles game, in that sense it is a very social game.
I believe Pickleball is brilliant form of exercise for all ages, it requires little investment and is community building.
Kingston Council had the opportunity last year to approve an already financed Pickleball facility on Villiers Road but turned it down. I would like them to reconsider. I am quite sure I could get signatures of residents that support my idea.
Thank you for your consideration.
Why the contribution is important
Because we need to get residents moving more, in particular those over 60s. It also creates community.
