Community Hall & Outdoor Gym Facilities @ Dickerage Park

Despite a population of !0.5k+, Coombe Vale Ward does not have any dedicated community facility serving all sections of the community. ( The current building within the AfC perimeter will not serve the purpose). Current plans to develop the Vauxhall Dealership site at the Triangle provides a perfect oppotunity to build a community hall within the adjacent grteen space in Dickerage Park.

The facility should include a small stage and seating capacity for up to 150/200 people, with flexible doors that can be opened to provide outdoor seating capacity during warmer months. This will help facilitate social gatherings, community celebrations, fitness classes / yoga and so on.

Out door gym facilities, similar to those provided at Manor Park would also be welcome e.g table tennis, chess tables etc.

Thank you

Why the contribution is important

Will help tackle deteriorating physical health due to poor day to day mental health issues.

Loneliness and social isolation among senior citizens, especially during winter months impacts negatively on too many CV residents. Given insreasingly fractured politics, its important to create, welcomimg, vibrant spaces for ppeople to mingle, network, share and hopefully care too :looking out for each other, providing additional channels of support at times of need.

Outdoor gym equipment may also encourage more 'intergenerational' visits and activitiesto a lovely green space on CV Residents' door step.

A performance stage will help facilitate talks, debates, community briefings, a vaccination hub and more.

No more developers or commercial development of that site. We've already lost the village feel of the triangle when we chopped down the willow, made space for parking and instead of the lovely green the bus stand took centre stage. We gave up the pub, fine, but allowed businesses to develop it in a way that makes the site uglier rather than enhanced. Other villages take pride in keepin their village aesthetic, we allowed Tesco, the hearing place and the restaurant to put garish branding all over the place. Taking the site back the Vauxhall site for the community is a must given its wonderful location. The park and now developed central location (bus stand, shops, dentist, pharmacy) call out for this now becoming a community hub. A community hall, with a green roof, that opens on to the green space behind could be better use of the space. It could be used for day centres for the young and the old, and hired to the local community for events. It would allow us to rethink the existing Dickerage park hall too. Perhaps that could become a mini-museum and nature education centre for the local kids - a place that teaches them about the history of their town and the importance of preserving nature, recycling etc, or given the near by playground and tennis courts it could be dedicated to keeping active and fit. Depending on the season we could invite craft fairs or farmers markets, christmas markets etc. The local businesses and the community would benefit.
