Extension of the 281 Bus Route to Include Cox Lane Business Park

Extend the 281 Bus Route to serve Cox Lane Business Park

Why the contribution is important

On 6th September 1978 the 281 bus route served at the time  by Trolley Buses (electirc Buses are not a new idea) was ceased and replaced by Routemaster Buses.  This meant the route could be extended not constrained by overhead wire sand it was extended to serve Cox Lane Industiral Estate turning around using Davis Road.

Even today RATP Buses uses this route to turn  buses around so they can go back to the Tolworth Bus Garage.

However without communication or consultation with residents  TFL changed the route and terminated the Buses in EwellRoad behind the Marks and Specer Store.

With the development of the Guiness Partnership Estate they provide money for a new bus rest along side Tolworth Station to serve thenew residnets of the new estate.

We would ask that we have the 281 route reinstated so it covers what is now Cox Lane Busineesw Park a thriving Business Hub with a wide range of diverse business that require an wide range of people skills etc.

Having a Bus route that wouddl serve Twickenham- Teddington- Hampton Wick- Kingston Town - Surbiton - Tolworth - Cox alne Business Park would help in attracting staff. Some of the companoies on the estate have night shifts and the 281 runs through the night and would stop perople having to walk down the isloated environment of Jubilee Way at the dead of night.

The London Mayor goes on about getting people out of our cars and supporting local businesses extending the 281 to cover the Cox lane Business Park would do both .

All we are asking is for the 281 route to be resinstated back to its 1978 Route but with Electric Buses and not Routemasters..
