New Zebra crossing A243 Harrow Close

New Zebra crossing on A243 Leatherhead Road at point where there is already dropped curbs and a centre safety island

Why the contribution is important

We have had for some time ask for a Zebra crossing just South of  Harrow Close

Yet money talks and TFL in conjunction with Lidl’s are making a crossing available adjacent to the Lidl’s Store for shoppers as part of the demolition of real useful family homes and the expansion of the Lidl’s Car Park encouraging more traffic to the area so they don’t have to walk back to use the pedestrian lights further north from the store.

I therefore think TFL have set a precedent in adding a manual crossing nearby a light controlled crossing and although all pedestrian safety matters I would say children’s safety comes well above all others and especially shoppers.

So much for the Mayor wanting to discourage car use.

Please can I ask serious consideration is given to a Zebra crossing where we once had an RBK Funded School Patrol Person (Lollipop Person) and install a Zebra Crossing.

The drop kerbs , central refuge and power are all there so installation costs would be far less and much more efficient than a Light Controlled Crossing. These days you can even get Solar Powered Belish Beacons  in fact an old Business contacts Company makes them https://ticknallsolar.com/ (I am not on commission ).

Also it would stop parents with their children having to use the Merritt Gardens three way junction crossing and getting fed up with the long waits and taking risks. It would also stop the extra hold up for the traffic trying to free the Bridge Road Roundabout going South at Peak times. I have always said Zebra crossings also promoted curtesy and its great to see an exchange of salutations between pedestrian and driver especially if its accompanied by a wave and smile from a child.

I have recently had feedback from a memebr of our Local Neighbourhood Watch Dog watch Group that he has nearly been hit by vehicles going south through the lights at Merritt Gardens at red due to frustratiion of backup of traffic.

Moving pedestrains further down to a Zebra Crossing at Harrow Close and converting the new Lidl's crossing into a Zebra Crossing would lower the number of pedestrains crossing at what would appear to be a dangerous Pedestrian Light Crossing at Merritt Gardens .
