Safe Crossing A243 Adjacent to Star Inn

We need our London Mayor, RBK Offciers and Councillors to come together and support the residnets of Malden Rusheet to get a pedestrian light controlled crossing on the busy A243 just South of the Star Inn.

At present there is a very small central island that barely gives any protection to pederstain especially if there is more than one of them, accompanied by children or who also may have  a dog and cycles.

The crossing is just within the Surrey County Council Area i.e. 50 yards but is used by RBK residents.

The issue is cost and we would ask that our London Mayor, RBK Council Offciers and Councilors look to offer financial support to get this crossing installed . We are possibley looking at an overall cost of £150,000.

Tim Hall Vice-Chair Surrey County Council and Ward Councillor for Leatherhead and East Fetcham has been great and  very supportive and has met with representatives from  RBK South of the Borough Community .He has lobbied Surrey Councty Council Director of Highways Lucy Monie on our behalf.

Our London Mayor says he wants us to all get out of our cars and get walking and cycling so he could show he means what he says  by offering to donate funds towards  this project as this crossing gives residents access to the wonderful ancient asset of Ashtead Woods and Common. We need this crossing so residnets can carry out this in a safe way.

For years RBK residnets have been paying and supporting the Lea Valley Project that covers London and two other counties and most of our residents  have ever been there or benefitted form its facilities.

Maybe its time we see some on this money diverted to a poject closer to home and that would benefit our residents that similarly to the Lea Valley Project crosses boundaries but benifits  residnets in all the areas involved.

Why the contribution is important

We need to make the crossing of the A243 at this point safer for all residenst and visiting hikers and cyclist .

Especially as the London Council LLSC (London Lorry Scheme Committee) who control large goods vehicle movements  using London Roads has instructed all the major supermarkets to direct their juggernaughts that are the largest permissable lorries allowed on UK Roads  to use the A243 through Malden Rushett Village to get from Junction 9 of the M25 to the Ace of Spades Roundabout. Tolworth Railway Bridge and Ace of Spades Underpass are too low and cannot accomodate these vehicles.
