A community centre in Surbiton

Since the closure in 2019 of the King Charles Centre, we feel that an adult education / community centre is missing.

A central hub in the area, where people can come together, in a warm space.  A centre that would fulfil what was previously provisioned by the King Charles Centre, which had offered adult education classes and similar.

Why the contribution is important

We feel our idea is important as since these premises was sold in 2019, there has not been something on a similar scale to replace it; it is needed now more than ever, in our opinion,

There is an adult education centre and warm space at the rear of Surbiton Station @ Hillcroft Campus of RHACC.

Hillcroft-Is this open to the general public then, I thought it was now college property who now do the Adult Ed classes?
What are the halls adjoining Surbiton library now used for?

Would be better to have something a bit more central in town ?

The King Charles Centre has remained closed and unused for years. This is a complete failure of planning - important community sites should not be allowed to be squandered in this way. Can we not just open it up again, since the new owner does not seem to want it.

This is a wonderful idea. Community centres can and SHOULD be the heart of a thriving, buzzing community. Having a space for stay-at-home parents can bring their toddlers for arts and crafts, where teens can drop-in to do homework after school, where pensioners can learn to use new technology, where adults can have a workshop to indulge hobbies like woodworking, metalworking, and fashion design (See Makerversity).... We need this in Surbiton! Either at the King Charles site, or in the unused Hall beside the Surbiton library.
There are SOOOO many possibilities here for making bringing young and old together, and creating a stronger community fabric.

Yes Surbiton needs a central community space. I think the loss of the Assembly Halls to the ever-growing Surbiton High School was a myopic decision and a huge loss to Surbiton.

We don't have any community space near the station where people can meet, chat of have coffee, play board games.

Instead of having another charity shop, maybe we can have a community cafe primarily run by volunteers.

It would be good for Surbiton to have a community centre with a cheap cafe and cheap activities to do during the day.
