Litter in Surbiton
Surbiton is becoming increasingly littered. In particular, Victoria Road and Brighton Rd shopping areas are blighted with general litter along with piles of bin liners full of waste (some food) deposited by businesses to be collected by third party collectors (Biffa and First Mile). These include Costa, Fara Kids, Hawes & Co, British Heart Foundation etc. These not only look unsightly, but block the pavement, form a health hazard and are seen by some as a 'bin' to deposit their litter.
This combined with ineffectual Veolia street cleaners who (when asked) are told (by their supervisors) that they cannot pick up litter from, street gutters, parks and Surbiton Station forecourt! I've personally watched them walk straight past piles of street litter. What are they actually employed to do?
Why the contribution is important
Make Surbiton a more pleasant place to live and work by implementing the following:
1. Inform all businesses in the Surbiton area that they must make alternative arrangements for disposing of waste (others shops manage, so it's possible) rather than dumping it on the street.
2. Hold Veolia to account, by ensuring that street cleaning is properly managed.
