Mural / Surbiton sign under railbridge

It would be fantastic to have a Surbiton sign under the railbridge on Brighton Road. Similar to the one in Tolworth. Would be far more attractive than the awful advertising boards currently there.

Why the contribution is important

To make the area smarter, cleaner looking and welcoming

This retro sign is quirky and should be preserved at all costs. As well as giving directions it enhances Surbiton with a little piece of nostalgia.

Mosaic murals like the one in Old Malden, on Kingston College Arts and other places would be wonderful. Can still have advertising one side, to get income, but make it more cheerful and community feel. Save the World Club in Southsea Road organised lots of those.
Even if it is just up to 6 foot and ads above, the area people look at.
Could also get street artists to do pictures, like tolworth underpass had. Get some pupils who are challenged into street art instead of ugly tagging. Drop outs and excluded children.

In Chile, a town was full of gangs, youths and older out of control, everyone told not to go to that city. It has been transformed as tourists now go to see the street art on nearly every building. I went April this year, it has brought an income to the area, accommodation, shops, sightseeing tours. (a bit like when some people put amazing christmas lights up and others go to view them) . Maybe the person who does the lovely art on places like ginger cafe - queens promenade and the cafe in the park by St James could teach them?

Street art one side, mosaic the other.? Ads above if the income is important .
