Murals

There are a few very attractive murals in the neighbourhood, which turn a drab wall space into a colourful and arty canvas. Examples are the swan on Ginger Bees Cafe, some temporary murals in Kingston town centre and the Queen's Promenade art deco inspired mural on the promenade. All that brightens up our neighbourhood. Other towns are much more bullish in turning public wall space into art. I would like to see more of that in Surbiton; they are fun, bright talking points for the community and, over time, might create a Surbiton mural vibe. Perhaps we can celebrate some Surbiton-related historic stories, events, icons and/or people?

Why the contribution is important

Turn boring, sometimes graffitied public wall space into bright and happy 'pictures'.

I would also add the magnificent 1970's mosaic outside Sainsburys which succinctly tells the history of Surbiton; I was so appalled by the dirt on it I cleaned it myself last year and the colours of the mosaic came back to life. More murals elsewhere please.
