Pedestrian bridge over river near Filter Beds

A pedestrian bridge over the Thames, located somewhere around the filter beds site, would be wonderful for the residents of Surbiton to be able to access the vast green space the other side of the river without needing to travel into Kingston or Hampton Court first.

Why the contribution is important

This would open up more walking routes, and access to green and blue space for residents, with all the physical and mental health advantages that brings.

Excellent idea, but make it a bit further downstream, nearer Ginger Bees Cafe.

    This would be 👍

Absolutely! The other side of the river has the towpath in both directions, and access points into the Home Park green space. A footbridge would greatly increase access to all these, and reduce the need for people to travel to the crowded areas of either Kingston or Hampton Court to do so.

If the filter beds location isn't suitable, there is already a (non-public) tunnel under the Thames from the end of Ferry Road over to Barge Walk, with unused space at both ends that might support emplacements for a bridge.

Brilliant idea as going all the way to Kingston Bridge is not very quick

Couldn't agree more! I have heard about this idea a couple of times in the last, would like to know what the obstacles were previously so that it is a success.

Yes, please! This would give residents access to vast green spaces (Home Park, Bushy Park and Thames river walk) and make Surbiton an absolutely brilliant place to live.

Green spaces within Surbiton are fairly small, and getting to any of the parks (Home Park, Bushy Park, Richmond Park) at the moment requires taking public transport or driving. This significantly reduces the frequency of going there. Having easy access to the park(s) provides huge benefits for mental health and general well-being.

This is a great idea and would free up more traffic as residents would walk rather than take the car to hampton court or bushy park

This is a great idea. It would reduce traffic, provide access to more green open space with all the associated health benefits as well as increase trade for shops and restaurants in Surbiton

Agree- would enable locals to access more green spaces by foot/bike .
Green spaces within Surbiton are small, and getting to larger green spaces requires driving.

    This is a great idea.
Having been vulnerable for some time, not able to take a bus or having energy to cycle this would be so nice. Means you can spend more time in a green space, not having to walk all the way to a busy Kingston.(im Surbiton based).
