Revitalisation of Victoria Road

Victoria Road currently features several poorly maintained or lower-quality shops, which detract from the overall character and charm of the Kingston borough. In contrast to the many well-loved independent retailers throughout the area, these two roads feel overlooked.

  • Encourage higher standards for shopfront presentation and maintenance, possibly through local grants or a facade improvement initiative.

  • Introduce more selective criteria or incentives for incoming businesses to attract independent retailers, quality cafés, and community-focused shops—giving these roads a cohesive, welcoming “village” feel.

The recent "vibe" in Victoria Road in early to mid evening is quite relaxed. Alongside the YMCA gym and the yoga venue, the new gym has increased the numbers of people walking, cycling, and chatting. This has made the area feel more welcoming.
It is also great to see three new shops being set-up: Holland and Barrett, Tool station and Gala Gelato on St Andrew's Road.
