Surbiton station plaza improvements

Improve Surbiton station front plaza so that it is better for those walking and cycling to/from the station. The station forecourt is often difficult to navigate due to a large number of cars and is a negative focal point for the centre of Surbiton. There had been previous proposals to direct taxis behind the shops on Victoria Road and around the side of the plaza. This would free up space for a more welcoming entrance with more greening possible and better lighting in front of and of the station.

Why the contribution is important

A much improved focal point for the centre of Surbiton.

This is a fantastic idea! The current arrangement is inefficient - thousands of pedestrians are squeezed onto narrow pathways each day, while a vast area is reserved for just a few cars. Reimagining the station front would greatly benefit the daily flow and make Surbiton more welcoming

The look of the area needs improving. Better hard landscaping, fewer cars and more greenery would be a boost.

I fully support this proposal and I have posted my own idea in more detail about how this could be achieved.

This could become a fantastic focal point for the whole of Surbiton and build on our iconic art deco station.
